Ok, i think i've filled in most of the missing pieces on this, god my math sucks! Is this correct what i have? I have the 2 shorter lengths of the base coming in at 6 5/8" and the innermost edges of the front motor mounts placed at 1 7/16" in from each side with a 3 3/4 gap between them? Is that correct? also, what is the overall length of the side rails ( the longer pieces ) is it 12 1/4" or 12 1/2"? Thanks again for your patience all, its been along time. --David

The actual lengths of the base pieces will depend on the size and thickness of the angle you use. If you use 1/4" thick angle then yes, the shorter base pieces would work out to be 6 5/8" long. That would space the center verticals 7 1/8" apart inside-to-inside. Most smaller angle like this however, whether it be 1"x 1" or 1 1/4"x 1 1/4", is only 1/8" thick. That's what I used and it required my shorter base length to be 6 7/8".
The longer base angle will be 11 1/2" + the length from the center of the hole in the rear upright to the back side of the base angle it mounts on. This means you'll need to make and drill those rear uprights first. When you drill the uprights, clamp the matched pairs together and drill through both pieces. This will line them up perfectly with one another. Remember, the uprights sit on the base angles so their lengths will be 3 1/4" and 5 7/8" MINUS the thickness of that base angle.

For anyone building that stand, I recommend you add 1" to the length of the uprights. Even doing that, my starter motor barely cleared it ..... And to get the engine out, I whipped up these "handles". They allowed me and my brother to lift the motor like a stretcher and wiggle it out of the frame ..... 5twins, do you still have the picture of the "handles" that you made to wriggle the motor out of the frame?

Yes, I don't know what happened to the original pic I had posted. I added a couple new ones. Very simple, really, just lengths of pipe with tabs welded to them spaced to fit front and rear motor mounts. Ends of the tabs are rounded off with an angle grinder so the square corners don't dig into the cases.
