We have finaly made it through the upgrades and bug period of the new version of proboards. ;D As you can see, the look of the board has changed, and I am hoping everyone can get used to it. We have decided to move things around, and try to better group similar boards together, and at the same time, "clean up" the appearance of the main page of the board. Some questions have been asked lately, and I will use this thread to answer some of the most common ones.
1) How do I get the pop-up window informing me of new Private Messages?
Go into your Private message inbox. Click on the Preferences button :
. From there, scroll down to this line: Would you like an alert box to notify you when a new private message has arrived? Choose Yes in the drop down menu, and click on the Save Preferences button.
2) Can I recieve Email notification of replys to a specific thread like the old version?
YES you can {I just discovered this feature!} You need to utilize the Bookmark feature of v4. To book mark a thread, look in the top left corner of any thread. You will see a Bookmark buton:
By clicking on this button, you will add this thread to your bookmark list. To access your bookmark list, click on the profile button in the top menu bar :
and then click on the Bookmarks link next to Modify Profile. On the right side of the screen, click on Manage Bookmarks There you will have 3 options. You can choose your notification by bookmark individualy, or set a default notification for all of your bookmarks. In the dropdown boxes, choose Personal Message (PM) or Email, then click the Update Bookmarks and Preferences button.
An addition to the notification option:
There is currently a bug in the ProBoards coding that might affect your notifications.
If you are using the popup notification for PM's, this applies to you:
A current bug has been reported and is being addressed by the Proboards staff regarding PM notification of Bookmarked threads not triggering the PM popup. This means the PM's will be delivered to you about your bokmarks, but the popup window as described in step 1 will not work for these PM's. All other PM's will trigger the popup as usual. This bug should be fixed soon.
3) How do I upload pictures?
We are using an integrated Image Uploading Script created by California over at SoCal It is quite simple to use.
The first step is to start the thread you would like to insert the image to. You can do this by either starting a new thread or replying to an existing thread. To the left of the message field, you will see the image hosting fields (Circled in red )

Next step is to click on the browse button.

Navigate through your computer to find the image you wish to upload and double click on the image file. This will place the path of the image in the hosting field. Next step is to click the "Host It!" button.

Be patient for the upload process, it can take up to 30 seconds, even on a high speed connection.
A new window will open up, and the information for linking to your pictures will be on this page.

Here are the 2 lines you need to concern yourself with on this page:

The Blue line is for large pictures. This will make thumbnails just like the ones used in this post. Right click on this line and select copy, then paste the line directly into your post to insert your image.
The Red line is for smaller images that will look normal in a post with out stretching out the screen. This line would be most used for avatars or images in your signature, or images you have sized down previously. Copy this line just like before, but this line needs to be placed between image tags when placed in your post. The easiest way is to click on this button above the smilies:
This FAQ will be updated as needed, PM me if you think of anything else that should be added.
