Hey Bob,
I tried the link and the page that came up said "URL Not found". Any chance there's a problem with the process, or is there something screwed up in my computer? Thanks, Tom D. PS, Hey Norm, How Are Ya? Gettin' cold up there yet???......lol. TSD

Is anyone else having issues with Frappr? I've been wanting to see what other XS enthusiasts are close to me and I cannot get into the site.

Craig - If I'm not mistaken, Frappr has been permanently shut down.

Welcome Rem and Robbo -
Glad you're enjoying the site - I hope you find all the info you need to do it right!
Rem: what model of XS did you get? Is it a project, or is it a rider?

to shaker norm... it's a 1980 special 2 ...garage kept it's whole life...engine completely disassembled by original owner in 2005 due to a worn out (chewed up) cam chain guide...i'm in the final stages of reassembly with some additional new parts...ie: boyer ignition, new clutch plates, seals, gaskets, and cam chain adjuster.

Rem - watch out for a coupe issues - make sure you get the missing washer back in the clutch - I've got pics of it in the stickies in the clutch area it should be there - but it's not shown in some of the diagrams).... And my Boyer failed on me - well the box is OK - but check your coil.
Sounds like you'll be on the road soon - hope to see some pics of it!

I live in Milwaukee, WI - and smoke the hometown Harleys everyday with my XS! My bike has about 1500 hours of work into it! I'm runnin' a 725cc over-bore with titanium valves, titanium rods, .430" lift cam split and re-welded 180 degrees out of phase(split single!), and a ported and polished head. Check out my site: 707racing.com

I am a newbie with a used but not abused (well, not too much) 82 XS650. I live in Stephenville, TX. Not sure where to go in the site to ask this question: This bike is a very stock and low miles bike (4700 Miles). In order to do some cleaning I have pulled the air box and batt box. After removing the batt box and air box, I hooked stuff up enough to start it (It would not run when I bought it but with the low miles, etc. I felt I could get it running). I found the ignition fuse holder had broken and that was keeping it from starting. Fixed that and I did start it but found that the only way it would run (very high idle) is with the choke almost full on. My question is: With the air box off, does that change the jetting so much that it would cause this problem and typically will it be ok if the box and filters are back in place?. I didn't want to go tearing into the carbs without finding this out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Taking the air box off will change your jetting a little, but not enough to need to run with the choke on... If it's been sitting for a while - then there is a REALLY good possibility that the carbs are varnished up and you'll have to clean them up to get it running properly. These carbs are pretty simple and you should be able to pull them apart and put them back together in an afternoon - cleaning may take a little longer, though. If you're mechanically inclined, it'll be easy, especially if you have a compressor or shop air to blow out the passages with. If not - some canned air or even electronic contact cleaner works well, too. The available carb kits are pretty complete, but you will want to check what is included and make sure you get all the parts you'll need. Probably the best reference you could get for any work on your carbs is right here...... xs650temp.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=carbfaq&action=display&thread=10784. A bunch of the carb gurus here got together and put together what is probably the best carb info you can get for your XS. Read it and you'll be OK.... And your bike will love you for it!
