Posted by 30coupe on 5/7/05 at 20:14 Flames is flames, but scallops is cool! Oldway, I was planning on running a sparto light too, but they don't have license plate light illumination do they? How do you plan to address that problem, or just don't worry about it. I always like to "look" legal so as not to give an excuse to be pulled over. Next thing ya know, they're looking at EVERYTHING, and I don't need that. My fender is even shorter (ends straight up from axle) and I need a light that can mount on top of a fender like that. Does anyone know of any other light that mounts like a sparto, or is there enough room in the housing to cut a lense hole and mount another small light inside? I refuse to run a sidemount, so I'm just looking for options. I love your bike, and don't want to sound like a smartass....but... how far did ya get before that chain ate your ignition key? Is that elec box from you know who? Or was that promise of sending you one just more of the same old song and dance?
My wife is LAPD so I don't worry about it. As far as the e-box is concerned it never came, I tried contacting him several times but no response. my wife wants to contact the law up there but I wouldn't want a piece of junk from that company that named itself after a poisinous BLACK aracnid on my bike anyway, it would probly fail and make my wife a WIDOW. Plus I don't think his stuff is quality enough for this CHOPPER.
Hey Old, I did find a sparto with the license light cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4548595192 The lense actually says SPARTO on it, but no part number. Not as clean looking as yours', but hopefully it'll help keep me legal. I wouldn't sweat not getting that elec box, it certainly wouldn't have been up to the caliber of the rest of your bike.... ;D30coupe
I added a mountain bike shock in place of the spring and could not get the old Harmon mini brake to work, ( yes it is about 30 years old), even after I re-lined the shoes it wouldn't even hold it on a slight hill. I designed an adapter to mount a disk brake rotor in the drum of the mini brake and mounted the stock caliper to the girder. Now stopping is one of the best things this bike does.
They're great over there and very supportive of any project, it's just that ( nothing against HD or the evil yuppies who have inflated the price of a so-so motorcycle ) the V-Twin has just been done to death. Back in the day we chopped anything and everything and some of the Triumph's BSA's and 750 fours put HD to shame as far as show bikes go. I would like to see that happen again. I own a Honda VTX, I would never chop it because no matter how nice it came out, and there are beautful examples of them out there, it would just be another V-Twin to me.
I don't want to come off as a Harley hater, I'am not, my point is as far as choppers go the V-Twin is as pass'e as flames ( ah-oh did I step in it again ). As for baggers, ( this is a catogory thats really coming of age ) these guys rock! I see more inovation and potential then any other type of custom.
I totally agree! It's not like v twins are bad because they do add a certain look to the bke but one shouldn't assume a chopper or bobber has to have one. I am doing a custom bobber with a xs650 or even a KZ65o if it is not too wide...
kardon: Wow quiet here, where did they all go.

joshua: The regulator/rectifier unit I got from Mikes PMA has closer hole spacing than original. Are we supposed to mill the holes to fit?
Jun 7, 2017 19:25:58 GMT -5
joshua: My bad. I found the bracket they supplied to mount the rectifier/regulator... Uh oh. How is this meant to work? Which way is it meant to mount? Looks like I have to use some spacers or something. Good instructions would be nice.

craig8johnson: I'm checking the charging system. I'm afraid I might have fried the last battery. With the solid state regulator (after market) what should it be charging at. The book says, I think, 15 volts. I'm hitting 17 when revved. Is that too high?
Jul 11, 2017 18:06:19 GMT -5
gggGary: Yes 17 volts is too high, about 14 volts is max, sounds like you don't have the right regulator or it's wired wrong.

louisvan: trix13 - I had a problem with my 1975 SX650. When I got to highway speeds, the engine lost power. The problem was in the connectors. At a certain vibration and the wind pushing on the wiring loom, the connector lost continuity. A bad crimp to the wire.
