Lotsa nice stuff there! Very clean.
What's with the brakes? Looks like an '81 rear wheel and an old-style disc on a later wheel up front? (I thought there was a problem using early discs and later rotors together?)

(I thought there was a problem using early discs and later rotors together?) miker Yikes! Sorry for the huge pics...I hadn't noticed they were so big... Miker...you're right about the later front wheel and older disc. The wheels interchange fairly universally (few exceptions), but the disc, caliper and forks all have to be compatible. In this case, I have the '76 disc and a '74 caliper (notice the crooked "Yamaha"...it was designed to go in front of the fork...shoulda fixed that) on the '76 fork lowers with '74 stantions and internals. If I had retained the later disc that came with the wheel, I would have had to find a set of later forks and a later floating caliper (not to metion a 35mm triple tree). Thanks for the comments! Beautiful bike. I really like the 2 color scheme. It is very clean. I also like the strapped together look of the battery box.

I'm really interested in getting some details on your build. That tank looks familiar, like it might not only fit a Yamaha XS650. Any idea what other bike might have a stock tank like that? Did you fabricate your own frame? Would like to see more deatail of rear axle area.

Thats a real sweet ride. Where did you get your seat for it and did you do the frame yourself? Also did you make the forward controls yourself?

Thanks for the comments, fellas!
To answer some questions...the tank is from a Harley Sportster. I put on custom mounts and modified it to move the petcock closer to the rear. The engine cradle is stock from the '76 donor bike. I just hacked off the back end and shipped it out to Stansell Cycle Works to get the hardtail section welded on. The seat is an aftermarket item I picked up on ebay...I had to fabricate a pivot mount for the front (its actually mounted to the frame seat post) and hooked up a couple 5" springs for the rear. It looked a lot more streamlined when I had 3" springs on there, but I got tired of feeling like I was gonna slide off the back.

I've been meaning to pick up a set of breather filters for this beast, but as of yet have not done so. Running without them is probably not the best, but for the short term...

Just a suggestion on the crankcase filters...I was short on space for the standard, round crankcase filters and they banged on the top of the carbs. So I bought a large round piece of crankcase filter material (for a car) at Shucks. Then I removed the crankcase filter housing and cut the filter material to fit inside the housing.

Cool bike! I wanted to build mine into one, but I enjoy it so much that I don't want to chop it up! Maybe a basket case on E-bay will come up
