Some shots of the current state my bike. I named her slim 'cause she's pretty skinny and there won't be any unnecessary things on her (like fenders, front brake, etc.). Yep, thats right, no axle adjusters. I'm fabricating a semi hidden chain tensioner. Also, let me know what tank you like better, I can't decide. Mental

You are freaking MENTAL! I love it! I love it! Black tank. other would look better on a cafe' me tinks. Nice frame. think you are going to have probs with chain wax/oil on the brake disk though. This system works better on bikes that have large sprockets and smaller rotors. But I LOVE IT! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Rick

I know that it's not everyone on this boards cup o tea, but I'm glad you guy's like it. I value all of your opinions. Thanks! In the picture, it looks like the rotor and sprocket are right next to each other, but there is actually 1" between them. We'll see how it works. I'm the kind of mental patient that would rather run a dry chain and replace components as necessary rather than compromise "the look". I know it's a sick attitude, but it's the one I've got. As far as the tree's go, they are an old set of 10 degree Allied units from the 70's. I do however have a link to a guy who builds custom tree's at, what I feel are extremely reasonable rates. Here it is. www.sandersmachine.com/index.htmMental

I am currently making a frame along the same lines as your but for my Sportster(The XS is next as soon as someone sells me a frame).....curved backbone and curved single downtube...Although I have not made axle plates yet, I like the clean look of yours...The only problem I am having is trying to figure out how to make a good sprung chain tensioner...So far all I have decided on is a grooved black skate board wheel...What are you gonna do, and how are you going to make yours? I think we have the same taste in bikes check this site out for some good ideas: www.chopperhandbook.com

Very nice, mental. I have to diverge from the crowd and say the larger silver tank looks better, but that's just me. I realize it would be painted, but IMO, the silver tank matches the size of the bike better.
It's a small matter, and either one would be fine. Keep posting pics, that's looking very nice and I sure would love to see it as it progresses.
Best, Pol

Thanks guys. I have three different ideas in my head for the chain tensioner. One would use a brake return spring from a Sportster, one would use an internal spring and the last one would a manually adjusted unit. All of them are really simple designs. I'll post some pics when I decide which one would work best in my situation.

Holy cow! That bike is sweeeeeeeet! You do some awsome work mental, you are definitely in a class by yourself. True craftsmanship and artistry, anyway, I like both tanks. Each tank gives you a different look. How about build two bikes and use both tanks ? Doc

Mental... When ou say drum brake return spring from a sporty, do you just mean the spring, or the entire assembly, including the spring, shaft and the piece that the brake rod attaches too, because that would be a great way to attach a small skate board wheel to act as a chain tensioner...i sure hope you post alot more pics of "Slim" soon...I will have to dig out the digital camera and take some pics of my current projects...eric
