I bought a 79 xs650 with 2100 miles on it unfortunately someone has repainted it and changed the tank and carbs. Of course it didn't run when i got it. Got it running but someone had already been in the carbs and screwed up one of the pilot jets and would only start or try to on one cylinder. Put an old set on that i had runs great. I was wondering if anyone has a pic of what it should look like it's a 79 sf.Also whats the difference between a f and a sf. another interesting thing is from what i see it's the first one built that year serial no. 2F0-250101
If you speak other languages, there are some great Finnish, German, and Dutch sites out there, as well as some great Austrailian ones, but none of their addresses come to mind, right now.... Also, check out the following link for great (free!!) parts and service manuals for the 650:
Oh, by the by.... There are F's, SF's and 2F's in 1979. I believe the following to be true: The "f" is the standard, the "sf" is the special, and the "2f" is the special-II. Standards would have flatter seats like the older ones, specials would have the stepped seats, and the difference between the specal and the special II is that one has mag wheels (special) and the other spoked wheels (special II)....among other tiny changes, I'm sure.
deadlykittin: loses compression after the first kick. Ontop of that, i noticed it 1, wont go into neutral when sitting still. and now it dies after getting it started in neutral and going into gear
