I painted my bike OD green since I'm a sucker for the retro/military look. Since this pic I rattle canned the exhaust flat black and wanted to do the same with the fenders and rims. I think it looks awesome, go for it. My favorite part of this bike is my highway peg. (jk, i need to change this as soon as possible)

I'd recommend having the exhaust ceramic coated. I just had my 2-1 done flat black, it looks pretty nice.

Just painted my other ride(a sporty) with UK Military standard paint, painted it rattle can satin black then added some camo details in Olive and Brown satin, applied with bubble wrap!....sounds terrible but everyone remarks how cool it looks so I reckon my XS will get the same treatment...it's cheap, easy to do and looks the dogs danglies If I knew how to post a picture I'd put one on but me and PC'S don't get on too well.

Something about that look makes me want to invade France and shoot Germans.

The French would just surrender (again) and the Germans would just retreat in an air of self importance . Rather something more worthwhile like paying attention to the short comings in the XS suspension and doing away with what was originally a German misadventure , the 360 degree crank . This one hold over from the Hosk , Horex and Showa beginnings of the XS650 is the motorcycle's singular downfall . Then again I drink on occasion and spout inanities on forums .

The honda rebel seat has a tab at the front which slides underneath the rear tab on the gas tank. It looks like the only modification needed would be to drill 2 holes on the rear fender to hold the back of the passenger seat down. I'll take some pictures just to show what I'm talking about.

Ah OK, I believe I have seen a rebel seat, but a pic if not much effort will be fine. Though to be honest, I am aiming for a different look, so I am just curious ... so just ignore me ... Cool. Srinath.

This winter I'm planning to coat the frame with por-15 and then repaint everything. I can't decide between flat black and olive drab. What do you guys think? I like the olive drab look if the rest of the bike is set up for it like debadgeing it.ammo can saddlebags and turn signals made out of empty military shell caseings also add a cool mad max touch.if you use the heat wrap on the pipes give them a thick coat of epoxy paint(spray bomb from ace)or at least stove paint and it keeps the rust back pretty well.Plus use the high temp coating on the wrap which weathers pretty cool. The best deal i have found on wrap is thrue speedway motors.com

and you could use M1 (Garand) cartridge cases for the toggle switches!
and a "D-Day" license plate.
maybe a couple of bullet holes in the tank and fenders.
Wear a WWII leather flying helmet.
B-1 jacket
Scowl like Lee Marvin.
o hell yeah.
